Tbilisi Receives Russian Gas via Azerbaijan

Russia its increased gas supply to Azerbaijan on January 22 by 3 million cubic meters per day in order to deliver this additional gas to Georgia, the Russian energy giant Gazprom reported, according to the Interfax news agency.


Georgia stopped receiving gas directly from Russia after two pipelines exploded in North Ossetia early on January 22.


Georgia needs a total of 7 million cubic meters of gas per day. 3 million cubic meters of gas, which is delivered via Azerbaijan, is enough only for consumers in Tbilisi and for operation of the 9th power generator in Gardabani.


Currently, the regions of Georgian remain without gas.
