Georgian Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze said in an interview with the Tbilisi-based Rustavi 2 television late on November 17 that Russia has failed to adjust to the “new political reality and continues its old imperialistic course.”
She did not rule out that Russia’s initial refusal to grant a visa to Georgian parliamentarian Givi Targamadze, which eventually resulted in the Georgian side’s boycotting of the CIS Parliamentary Assembly in St. Petersburg, was an attempt of “certain forces in Russia” to thwart the Georgian side’s intention “to openly state our position” about the South Ossetian conflict resolution issue.
The Georgian delegation intended to present Tbilisi’s peace plan over South Ossetia at the CIS Parliamentary Assembly.
“The main reason of our presence in the CIS is to use this forum for dialogues and discussions of vitally important issues, not only with Russia but also with other members of the CIS,” she said.
