UN-led Georgian-Abkhaz Talks Planned in Sokhumi

Georgian-Abkhaz talks under UN mediation will take place in the breakaway Abkhaz capital Sokhumi on October 20-21, according to the office of the Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues. State Minister Giorgi Khaindrava will lead the Georgian delegation at these talks.


It is expected that discussion of a draft joint Georgian-Abkhaz declaration on non-resumption of hostilities will top the agenda of the talks, which will also be attended by representatives of the UN Secretary General?s Group of Friends, involving France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States.


According to the Georgian State Minister?s office, consultations are currently underway with the Tbilisi-based legitimate government of Abkhazia over the positions of the Georgian side during the talks.
