Saakashvili Visits Flood-Stricken Regions

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili visited the flood-stricken regions of Samegrelo and Guria in western Georgia on October 8.

Two men died and dozens of houses were flooded as a result of heavy rains in Guria, Samegrelo and the Adjara Autonomous Republic over the past 3-4 days. Reportedly, access to some villages has been cut off. Many bridges and roads have been washed away.

President Saakashvili pledged support to the local population and thanked the reserve forces for participating in the rescue operations.

According to preliminary calculations the damage caused by the flood amounted to GEL 10-15 million.

The Federation of Georgian Businessmen decided on October 7 to open a bank account to render assistance to the victims of natural disasters.
