The election commission set up by the four opposition parties ? the New Rights, the Conservatives, the Freedom Party and the Labors – to administer joint primary elections has determined September 17 as the date of holding the primaries.
The primaries are held by the opposition parties in an attempt to nominate a single candidate in each of the five single-mandate constituencies of Georgia to run in the parliamentary by-elections scheduled for October 1.
The primaries will be held in the five single-mandate constituencies where by-elections are scheduled: the Adjarian towns of Kobuleti, Batumi and Shuakhevi; the western Georgian town of Tkibuli and Tbilisi?s Isani district. All voters officially registered in these constituencies will be able to participate in the primaries.
