Georgian-Abkhaz Talks Scheduled for August 4

UN-sponsored talks between the Georgian and Abkhaz sides will be held in Tbilisi on August 4 to discuss issues related to the security and return of internally displaced persons to Abkhazia, UN Secretary General?s Special Representative Heidi Tagliavini said after talks with Abkhaz leader Sergey Bagapsh in Sokhumi on August 2.

These talks were initially planned for July 22, but were thwarted because the Abkhaz side refused to arrive in Tbilisi, citing the seizure of a Turkish vessel carrying cargo bound for Abkhazia. The Georgian side returned the cargo to the Abkhaz side on August 1.

According to the Abkhaz news agency Apsnipress, Tagliavini briefed Bagapsh about the recent resolution of the UN Security Council adopted on July 29.
