Tskhinvali Condemns Arrest of Gori Blast Suspects

Authorities in breakaway South Ossetia condemned Georgian police operation in the South Ossetian conflict zone which resulted in arrest of Ossetians, who are suspected by the Georgian side in carrying out deadly car bomb explosion in Gori in February, as violation of agreements reached in frames of quadripartite Joint Control Commission (JCC).

Secretary of the JCC from the South Ossetian side Leonid Tibilov said that according to these agreements the Georgian side should coordinate police operation in the conflict zone with the Ossetian side, South Ossetian Press and Information Committee reported on July 26.

According to the Georgian Interior Ministry two persons, suspected in carrying out Gori blast, were arrested on July 17 on the Ossetian-controlled territory of the conflict zone.

Secretary of National Security Council of breakaway South Ossetia Oleg Albarov expressed doubts about the Georgian side?s allegations. He said that the arrested persons are civilians who have nothing common with Gori blast, according to the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee.

?Initially it was said [by the Georgian law enforcers] that arrested persons were engaged in smuggling of cigarettes; then they were accused of drag trafficking and later of arms trade? [suspects] are not agents of the special services [as claimed by the Georgian Interior Ministry]. The Georgian side is simply looking for a pretext to launch war,? Oleg Albarov said.
