Republican Leader Comments on Attack on MP

Chairman of the opposition Republican Party Davit Usupashvili described the recent attack against Georgian MP Valerie Gelasvili, who recently joined the Republican Party, as “an uncivilized reprisal by the authorities.”

?The authorities find it rather difficult to deal with the opposition through civilized methods, therefore they often use the methods of blackmail, violence and physical intimidation,? Davit Usupashvili said at a news briefing on July 16.

At the same time Usupashvili stressed that he is ready to cooperate with the investigation and submit important materials regarding the incident.

Valerie Gelashvili, who was brutally beaten up by unknown persons in Tbilisi on July 14, blamed the authorities for this attack and linked the incident with a row involving the Presidential Residence, which is currently under construction.
