Sokhumi Concerned over Tbilisi’s ‘Military Rhetoric’

The Parliament of breakaway Abkhazia adopted a statement on May 19 expressing concern over “militaristic statements” that have been made by Georgian officials, including by President Saakashvili, the Abkhaz news agency Apsnipress reported.

“Unfortunately, hopes that Georgia’s new leadership would have been a promoter of democratic values and a more constructive foreign policy have faded away. Aggressive statements over Abkhazia prove that Tbilisi has no strategy for a peaceful settlement of the conflict,” the Abkhaz Parliament’s statement reads.

However, this statement does not specify which statements by the Georgian officials that Abkhaz lawmakers are referring to.
