Tbilisi Municipality Wants to Return ‘Illegally’ Privatized Lands

Tbilisi Mayor Zurab Tchiaberashvili said on May 20 that 300,000 square meters of land, which was “illegally” privatized in the capital city btween 2000-2003 should be returned back to state ownership.

He said that the total price of these lands now exceeds 50 million Lari (approximately USD 27.3 million). But, as Tchiaberashvili said, these lands were sold for only 7.5 million Lari because of corrupt and illegal transactions between officials and those individuals who currently own these lands.

Tchiaberashvili also said that the process of returning this privatized land “will be held in accordance with Georgian legislature.”
