OSCE Rejects Tskhinvali’s Accusations

The OSCE Mission to Georgia issued a statement on March 17 in response to the statements made by Boris Chochiev, the South Ossetian envoy in the quadripartite Joint Control Commission (JCC), during a recent JCC session in Moscow. Chochiev accused the OSCE Mission of providing “biased assessments” of the situation in the South Ossetian conflict zone.

“The statement [of the South Ossetian side] is allegedly based on the analysis of the Mission’s reports. The reports of the Mission on all areas of its activities in the zone of Georgian-Ossetian conflict, including military monitoring, are based on objective and reliable information about the events on the ground and do not imply any evaluation. Moreover, the reports of the Mission are being sent only to the Governments of 55 OSCE participating States and are confidential. Given that the reports are not available for the South-Ossetian side, their “analysis” does not seem possible. Therefore, accusations brought forward in the statement, could not be considered by the Mission other than unjustified and subjective,” the statement issued by the OSCE Mission to Georgia reads.

“The Mission deeply regrets this statement which is inappropriate in both its timing and content, and rejects it categorically. The statement does not recognize the endeavours for peaceful settlement of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict, which is the final goal the OSCE and its Mission to Georgia spares no effort to achieve,” the statement continues.
