Defense Minister Blames ‘Certain Officials’ for Fuelling Speculations

Georgian Defense Minister Giorgi Baramidze refused to confirm or deny unofficial reports regarding his possible resignation, which may occur as a result of the anticipated cabinet reshuffle; however he did add that these speculations “might be initiated” by certain persons in the government.

“No official comment has been made so far and the reports about my possible resignation are coming only from journalists. But I also do not rule out that they [journalists] are triggered [to report these speculations] by certain persons in the government,” Giorgi Baramidze said at a news briefing on December 13.

On December 11 Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania confirmed that a cabinet reshuffle is anticipated but refused to comment on the details, adding that the details will become known only after consultations with President Mikheil Saakashvili take place.
