Ex-Energy Minister Becomes Energy Regulatory Commission’s Chairman

(Tbilisi, August 14, 2003, Civil Georgia) – President Shevardnadze appointed Davit Mirtskhulava, former Minister of Energy, to the post of Chairman of the National Energy Regulatory Commission for a six-year term.

Davit Mirtskhulava resigned as Energy Minister on August 12. President Shevardnadze proposed that Parliament approve Deputy State Minster, Mamuka Nikolaishvili, to the post of Energy Minister.

Recently, the former Energy Minister, Davit Mirtskhulava, was criticized harshly by the opposition parties for signing an agreement with the Russian energy gi!
ant, Gazprom, as well as for securing the entry of another Russian state-owned company, Unified Energy Systems, into Georgia.
