Agreement on Strategic Cooperation to be Signed with Gazprom

(Tbilisi, May 29 2003, Civil Georgia) Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze and Chairman of Gazprom JSC (Russian gas facility) Aleksey Miller yesterday achieved an agreement in Tbilisi on signing a strategic cooperation contract in gas field.

The document will imply the key trends and principles of the cooperation, the press service of Gazprom reports.

Shevardnadze, Miller discussed the issues of gas transportation, Russian gas export to Georgia and implementation of joint projects to promote the sale of gas on the domestic market.

The sides are confident that the agreement to be signed in the near future will initiate mutually beneficial, long-term relations.

Moreover, the sides agreed to sign a contract on Russian gas transit to Armenia via Georgia.

Earlier, in April and May, Director-General of the International Gas Corporation of Georgia Aleksey Gotsiridze met with Georgian State Minister Avtandil Jorbenadze in the Gazprom central office to discuss the cooperation between Georgia and Gazprom.
