Russian Defense Official Holds Talks in Tbilisi on Military Bases

(Tbilisi. March 4, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Commander of the Russian Land Forces Valeri Ievnevich pays three-day working visit to Georgia.

Georgian Defense Ministry reports that today Russian defense official holds talks in Georgian Foreign Ministry regarding the withdrawal of the Russian military bases deployed in Georgia.

Russia and Georgia fail to narrow the gap on deadlines for closure of two Russian military bases in Batumi and Akhalkalaki. Russia demands 11 years to disband the bases, while Georgia insists on three years.
