Tbilisi Protest Against Death Penalty in Breakaway Abkhazia

(Tbilisi. February 25, 2003. Civil Georgia) – MP Elene Tevdoradze said at the Parliamentary session today that recently de facto authorities of the breakaway Abkhazia sentenced to death penalty ethnic Georgian.

?Death sentence is abolished in Georgia, thus we have to make our best to prevent execution of death penalty on Georgian territory,? MP Elene Tevdoradze said.

Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze expressed hope that the delegation of the Euro-parliament, which pays fact-finding visit to Georgia, will raise the issue during the talks with de facto Abkhaz authorities in Sokhumi, capital of breakaway Abkhazia.

Euro-parliamentarians will visit breakaway Abkhaz capital on February 26.
