Parliamentary Committees Discuss Draft Budget

(Tbilisi, January 16, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Parliamentary Committees on Budget and Tax started today to discuss the 2003 draft budget.

The Parliament rejected the draft budget in late December and the government resubmitted it to the Parliament in January.

Opposition demanded to increase expenditures, but as the Finance Minister Mirian Gogiashvili said at the committees’ meeting today “a new draft has only minor changes.”

The pro-governmental Parliamentary factions created a majority in the beginning of January to ensure adoption of the budget. Opposition factions still refuse to support the draft.
