EU: Some Appointed Judges “do not enjoy broad public trust”

The Spokesperson of the European Union released the statement criticizing the appointment of the 14 Supreme Court judges, saying the selection procedure “did not adhere to all recommendations made by the Venice Commission” and noting “a lack of transparency”.

The statement also said “a number of the appointed candidates do not enjoy broad public trust, as was obvious in the course of the selection process.”

Critically, the statement said the integrity of the judiciary is the key “for the advancement of the EU-Georgia”. By making this statement, the EU has joined the critical remarks of Georgia’s other strategic and international partners.
