Ruling Party Dismisses MP Bidzina Gegidze

A majoritarian MP Bidzina Gegidze has been dismissed from the ruling Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia (GDDG) party. The ruling party made a decision at the meeting on Sunday, September 1

The GDDG MP Gia Volski said following yesterday’s meeting that there are some issues in which the ruling party and Gegidze had different positions, including the suspension of MP mandate to Nika Melia of the United National Movement and the selection of supreme court judges, finally leading to his dismissal.

On his part, Bidzina Gegidze, who  has been the member of GDDG since 2016, said he did not attend the Sunday meeting. Nevertheless, he said the decision of his dismissal was not a surprise, and that he will retain critical positions towards [the ruling party] anyway.

Over two weeks ago, MP Bidzina Gegidze was summoned for interrogation at the anti-corruption agency of the State Security Service over his activities at the Georgian Post a couple of years ago. Gegidze, however, connects the interrogation to his political positions and his recent critical remarks against the ruling party.
