New Border Police Chief Appointed

Temur Kekelidze has been appointed as new chief of the Georgian Border Police, replacing Dato Nikoleishvili, who was dismissed in July 2017.

Kekelidze, who has held various positions at the Georgian Foreign Ministry over the past 12 years, served as the deputy head of the Mission of Georgia to NATO in 2012-2016. From 2001 to 2006, Kekelidze worked at the National Security Council and the Defense Ministry in various capacities.

The position became vacant in July 2017 after the previous head, Dato Nikoleishvili, was dismissed following the reported kidnapping of Azerbaijani journalist, Afgan Mukhtarli, and his subsequent appearance in Azerbaijan.
