Georgia Minister Slams EU for not Speaking ‘Bluntly’ with Moscow

Georgian State Minister for Euro-Atlantic Integration Issues Giorgi Baramidze criticized the European Union for, as he put it, ?never speaking adequately with Russia over conflict resolution? issues in Georgia.

Giorgi Baramidze was speaking at a high-profile forum in Tbilisi ?Europe’s New Wave of Liberation? on November 22.

?EU has never spoken adequately with Russians over conflict resolution. When [Georgian] President [Mikheil Saakashvili] asked about it to the EU Troika members during their recent visit [to Georgia in October], they answered that Georgia is always in short-list and never gets into the short-short-list. I think this is just cynical,? Baramidze said.

?EU should speak clearly about problems in Georgia. Let them [the Russian side] understand that while Russia supports separatists in Georgia they hurt themselves. EU should speak bluntly with Russia. This is our opinion. This is what we need from you [EU]. We need this kind of support. We are expecting more from EU family. This is my frank position,? Giorgi Baramidze added.
