(Tbilisi, July 2, 2003, Civil Georgia) – President Shevardnadze called the Civil Aviation Administration at the government?s meeting today to lift ban on flights of the British Mediterranean Airways and Turkish Airlines in Georgia.
President?s statement follows the Georgian State Antimonopoly Service?s conclusion which negatively evaluates cancellation of the flight licenses of the British and Turkish companies.
The British Mediterranean Airways, which is the franchise partner for the British Airways and the Turkish Airlines suspended flights in Georgia on April 15 after the decision of the Civil Aviation Administration and the decree of the Georgian Parliament.
The Georgian side explained cancellation of the flight license to the British and Turkish companies with unpaid taxes, inadequate legal basis and unsolved disputes with the Georgian flagship company Airzena.
Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze criticized today decisions of the Parliament and the Civil Aviation Administration, as well as the Georgian flagship Airzena company.
