Six Parliament Vice Speakers Elected

After electing Irakli Kobakhidze as the new parliamentary chairman, the new Parliament elected six vice speakers at its inaugural session on November 18.

The Parliament elected with 120 votes to 2 Tamar Chugoshvili of Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia (GDDG) party as the first vice speaker. Tamar Chugoshvili joined the party in May. She chaired Tbilisi-based legal advocacy group Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association for two years till December, 2012, and was PM’s aide on human rights issues in 2013-2014

Gia Volski, who was leader of the parliamentary faction in the previous parliament, was elected as vice speaker with 129 votes to 3.

Zviad Dzidziguri, leader of Conservative Party, who entered the Parliament through GDDG’s party list of MPs, retained the post of vice-speaker in the new Parliament. He was elected with 129 votes to 2.

Ilia Nakashidze, GDDG’s majoritarian MP in Khelvachauri, was elected as vice speaker from Adjarian quota with 131 votes.

Parliamentary minority was eligible to one post of the vice speaker, which was taken by UNM MP Sergi Kapanadze, ex-deputy foreign minister till October 2012. He was elected with 94 votes to 15.

Irma Inashvili, one of the founders and leaders of Alliance of Patriots, was elected as vice speaker with 106 votes to 24.
