Four Workers Die During Building Demolition Works in Tbilisi

Four workers died as a result of collapse of the fourth floor of a building during demolition works on July 6.

Three workers died on the spot, and one was pulled alive from the rubble and rushed to hospital, but succumbed to multiple injuries a few hours later.

The building, formerly housing Institute of Physics and Mathematics on Apakidze street close to the Sports Palace, is being demolished to give way to the construction of a hotel.

Head of the construction workers trade union, Marina Kurtanidze, told Imedi TV that this was the eighth incident at construction sites involving fatalities this year. She went on to say that actual figures might be higher as not all such incidents are reported.
