Dead Body of Tiger, Missing from Zoo Since Deadly Flood, Found

A body of dead tiger, which was remaining unaccounted for from the Tbilisi zoo following the deadly flood three weeks ago, was found on Sunday.

A site where the body was recovered from mud and debris is not far from the zoo, close to the scene in Tbilisi center where another tiger was shot by the police after attacking and killing a man on June 17. Within few days after the fatal tiger attack, 112 emergency call center received over hundred reports about wild animals being spotted in Tbilisi and outside the capital; all of them turned out false alarms.

Director of the Tbilisi zoo, Zurab Gurielidze, said that the dead body of the tiger, found on July 5, was the last wild animal which was remaining unaccounted for since the flooding.

Devastating flood in central parts of Tbilisi from the night of June 13 to June 14, 2015 claimed the lives of at least 19 people, three others still remain missing; it also left dozens of families without houses, damaged major road and destroyed the large part of the zoo.
