Increase of Compensation for Families of Fallen Police Officers Approved

Parliament approved with its final reading on July 3 legislative amendments increasing one-time payment for families of police officers killed in the line of duty to GEL 100,000 (about USD 44,500).

The government-proposed amendment also sets monthly payment to those families at GEL 1,000.

Similar scheme will apply to employees of the planned State Security Service, after it is separated from the Interior Ministry.

The same scheme of compensation was introduced for families of fallen service members of the Georgian armed forces in 2013.
