Peacekeepers Released, Ammo not Returned

Georgia released four Russian peacekeepers hours after their detention on June 17.

Ammunition, including 20 anti-tank missiles, seized by Georgian law enforcement officers has, however, not been returned to the Russian peacekeeping troops. A Russian Defense Ministry official said it was a violation of agreements.

The Georgian Interior Ministry said a decision on the ammunition would be made following an investigation.

The Russian Defense Ministry said it was yet another provocation staged by the Georgian security services with an aim to discredit the Russian peacekeeping forces.
