Cabinet Structural Changes Proposed

The government has submitted to Parliament draft amendments to the law envisaging the creation of a first vice-premier and several vice-premier posts, Gia Khuroshvili, the government’s parliamentary secretary, said.

The proposal is in line with a relevant constitutional amendment, which was passed by Parliament earlier this year.

Currently there is one vice-premier post, held by Giorgi Baramidze.

According to the amendments, vice-premier positions are to be filled by existing government ministers and so no new cabinet portfolios need be created. It will be the prime minister’s responsibility to make the appointments and decide on how many vice-premiers there should be.
