Georgian PM’s Convoy Attacked in Tskhinvali Region

The South Ossetian side today opened fire at the convoy of Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania on the road between the Georgian villages of Eredvi and Achabeti in breakaway South Ossetia. No casualties reported.

“This is the position of the South Ossetian separatists and their supporters towards our peacekeeping operation,” the Georgian Prime Minister said following the incident.

Zurab Zhvania arrived in the conflict area on August 12 to get acquainted with the situation there.

Georgian Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze has already raised concern over the incident, calling it ‘alarming’.
