The New Rights Party said it was not engaged in the ongoing talks between the authorities and elements of the opposition.
The party said in a statement on January 17 that the clarification was necessary in light of the fact that some television stations were airing archive footage showing party members at a meeting with officials. The party said this was misleading.
“Our position on the January 5 presidential election remains unchanged,” the party said. “The first round of the election has failed to produce an outright winner and a second round is needed.”
