Tbilisi-Moscow Charter Flights Planned for Summer

Georgian air carrier, Georgian Airways, will start Tbilisi-Moscow charter flights on July 3.

Georgian Airways has received the verbal go-ahead from the Russian civil aviation service and an official confirmation is expected by July 2.

?The company will conduct three charter flights per week and a ticket will cost approximately USD 250-300. Flights will continue until early September,? Aka Sanikidze, Georgian Airways? public relations manager, told Civil.Ge on June 30.

He said that the Georgian Orthodox Church and the diplomatic missions of both countries had pushed for the decision.

Regular flights remain suspended, however.

Russia cut air, sea, land and railway links and postal communication with Georgia last October, following the arrest and subsequent expulsion of alleged Russian spies.

Despite the blockade, several charter flights, Tbilisi-Moscow-Tbilisi, were also arranged for the Christmas and Easter periods.
