USD 575 mln FDI for First Quarter

Foreign direct investment (FDI) was USD 575 million for the first quarter of the year, Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli said on June 27.


Denmark, Turkey and the Netherlands were the top three investors for the first three months of 2007, the prime minister said in Parliament.


He said a total of USD 2-2.5 billion in FDI was expected for the entire year.


The comparative figure for 2006 was USD 1.14 billion, up from USD 450 million in 2005. The U.K., the U.S. and Kazakhstan were the top three investors last year.


Nogaideli plans to visit Monaco on June 28-30 to participate in the Crans Montana Forum where he will showcase investment opportunities in Georgia.


A series of other fora are planned for this year to promote the country?s investment opportunities. Kazakh capital Astana will host an Invest in Georgia forum on July 2 and similar events will be held in Vienna and London in October, in New York in November and in New Deli in December.
