CIS Chambers of Commerce Chiefs Meet in Tbilisi

Tbilisi plays host on June 14-15 to a meeting of heads of chambers of commerce from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

Evgeni Primakov, Chairman of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who arrived in Tbilisi on June 13, said he would use the occasion to discuss trade relations between Russia and Georgia. Russia imposed a trade embargo on Georgia last year.

Primakov, who plans to meet Georgian officials, will reportedly also raise the issue of Russia?s WTO accession. Georgia, as an existing member, has the right to veto Russia’s entry. In return for its approval, Georgia wants Russia to legalize trade on border crossing points in Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
