Ex-MP Murder Suspects Arrested

Five suspects, three men and two women, were arrested on May 30 and charged with the murder of former lawmaker and businessman Zviad Tsetskhladze, police said. A sixth suspect is still at large.

Robbery was the motive behind the crime, Irakli Mazerashvili, an Interior Ministry official, told reporters on May 30.

Tsetskhladze?s son told reporters one of the suspects, a 24-year old woman, knew the victim and had received financial assistance from him for several times in the past.

Tsetskhladze, 61, was found dead in his office in downtown Tbilisi on May 28. He was found tied to a chair and had shown signs of having been strangled.

Tsetskhladze was a member of Parliament from 1999 to 2003 and a member of ex-Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze?s Revival Party. He was not, however, an active political figure even while in Parliament. Tsetskhladze was at one point a property owner, with interests in hotels in Adjara, Bakuriani and Tbilisi. He reportedly sold everything before his death.
