New Chief of State Audit Agency Appointed

The Georgian Parliament, by 115 to one, approved on May 11 the appointment of Deputy Foreign Minister Levan Choladze as head of the main state audit agency, the Chamber of Control, for a five-year term.

Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze said that Choladze would have to submit his plan for reform of the agency within a month.

Choladze, 29, served in the National Security Council (NSC) and briefly held the position of Secretary of the NSC before he was appointed as the deputy foreign minister in late 2005.

The position had been vacant since the death of former chairman Zurab Soselia in March.
