Tbilisi Expects ?Adequate? UN Resolution on Abkhazia

Georgian Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili said on April 7 that the draft resolution on Abkhazia, which is scheduled to be discussed by the UN Security Council on April 10, is ?much better? than the previous one adopted last October.

?We expect that those positive steps which Georgia has taken within the past six months will be adequately assessed. We also hope that the resolution will reflect a very firm position and give an appropriate assessment of the March 11 incident [shelling in the upper Kodori Gorge],? Bezhuashvili said after a cabinet meeting.

Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli, who is expected to participate in the UN Security Council session, will leave for New York late on April 7.

?We will intensively discuss the current situation in Abkhazia, particularly the situation in the Gali district [of the breakaway region],? Nogaideli said.
