Officials Deny Reports on Airport Deal

The Georgian Economy Ministry has denied reports that the Turkish company, Tepe-Akfen-Vie (TAV), is about to sell its management rights over Tbilisi Airport to Kazakh investors. The ministry dismissed such speculation as ?rumours.?

Tbilisi-based Rustavi 2 TV reported on April 6 that TAV, which holds the management rights over the Tbilisi airport for 15 years, is planning a USD 100 million deal with unspecified Kazakh investors.

TAV, which teamed up with Turkish construction firm, Urban, gained the rights in a deal signed with the Georgian authorities in September 2005. The company also constructed a new terminal, which was inaugurated in February 2007.

TAV is also constructing a new airport in Batumi. The Turkish company has invested about USD 100 million in the two projects.
