Georgian Official Meets OSCE Ambassadors in Vienna

Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Giorgi Manjgaladze held talks with the OSCE Secretary General and the heads of delegations to the OSCE at the OSCE headquarters in Vienna on March 23, the Georgian Foreign Ministry has reported.

During the meetings Mr. Manjgaladze focused on efforts to resolve the South Ossetian conflict, and in particular, a draft memorandum developed by the Georgian side on “Coordination of further measures for a full-scale resolution of the conflict in the Tskhinvali Region/South Ossetia, Georgia.” The ambassadors were also updated on the March 11 shelling in the upper Kodori Gorge.

“The Ambassadors expressed their satisfaction at the Georgian side”s active position and initiatives that have given a greater impetus to the ongoing processes and are oriented towards a full-scale resolution of the conflict. The Ambassadors also expressed their interest in the situation in the Tskhinvali region, in particular, the activity of the Sanakoev-led movement of “South Ossetian People for Peace” and the Georgian Government”s approach towards this movement,” a spokesman for the Georgian Foreign Ministry said.

On March 19 President Saakashvili met with Tbilisi-loyal South Ossetian leader Dimitri Sanakoev, less than a week after he had announced Tbilisi”s readiness to establish “official relations” with the Kurta-based alternative authorities. This move was condemned by the South Ossetian authorities.
