Russia’s Gazprom is no longer the major gas supplier for Georgia and almost half of the gas comes from the Azerbaijan’s two sources, Georgian Energy Minister Nika Gilauri said on March 19.
He was speaking with reporters in Gardabani, south of Tbilisi, at the gas pumping station where he was to mark launch of import of gas from the Azerbaijani Shah-Deniz field.
“If we look at the daily balance, Gazprom gas and the Azerbaijani gas go almost fifty-fifty,” Minister Gilauri said.
A breakdown of Georgia’s daily gas import plan, according to the Energy Minister, is as follows:
- 1 million cubic meters from the Shah-Deniz field under the price of USD 62,5 per 1000 cubic meters;
- 1,3 million cubic meters from Azerbaijani’s state-run Azerigaz company; price: USD 120 per 1000 cubic meters;
- 700-800 thousand cubic meters for transiting Russian gas to Armenia;
- 2.5 million cubic meters from Gazprom; price: USD 235 per 1000 cubic meters.
“This is a huge step for Georgia’s energy security… Georgia is receiving gas from three various sources and three various pipelines… This is a historical moment for Georgia’s energy security,” t Energy Minister Gilauri said.
