Turkish Interior Minister Visits Georgia

Visiting Turkish Interior Minister Abdulkadir Aksu met with his Georgian counterpart Vano Merabishvili in Tbilisi on February 15.

The two ministers signed an agreement on joint measures to provide security of the airport in Batumi, Adjara Autonomous Republic, the Georgian Interior Ministry reported.

Georgia and Turkey agreed in March 2006 on the joint use of the Batumi airport, which involves transforming the airport into a part of Turkey’s network of internal flights. The Turkish company TAV is currently reconstructing the Batumi airport, which will be opened in April 2007.

The Turkish Interior Minister will also meet with Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli and Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava during his one-day visit, according to the Georgian Interior Ministry.
