Georgian Foreign Minister Meets Russian Ambassador

Georgian Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili held talks with Russian Ambassador to Georgia Vyacheslav Kovalenko on January 30 to discuss bilateral relations.
 
?We agreed that in future we will hold regular meetings to discuss all aspects of Russian-Georgian relations,? Kovalenko told reporters after the meeting.


He also said that situation in the conflict zones were also discussed during the meeting.


?The Russian side is very much concerned about tensions in South Ossetia, which were triggered by recent provocative actions there. We reiterated that it is essential to resume a normal work of the Joint Control Commission [the quadripartite negotiating body over South Ossetia],? the Russian Ambassador said.


Bezhuashvili held a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on January 29.


Russian Ambassador Vyacheslav Kovalenko returned to Tbilisi on January 23, four months after Russia recalled him over a spy row with Georgia.


Kovalenko, who was appointed as Russia?s Ambassador to Georgia in July 2006, will deliver his credentials to Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili on January 31.
