Azeri Gas Flow Delayed

Gas import from Azerbaijan, which was due to be launched on January 10, has been delayed because of technical problems, officials said.

Reports say that Azerbaijani gas import will begin on January 11 or 12.

Alexander Khetaguri, General Director of the state-run Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation (GOGC), has declined to comment.

Georgia contracted to buy a total of 90 million cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan during three months for USD 120 per 1000 cubic meters.

Major gas distributor companies in Georgia already signed deals in December to purchase gas from Russia?s Gazprom for USD 235 per 1000 cubic meters; hence it is most likely that the state itself is purchasing Azerbaijani gas to generate electricity.

Georgia hopes to receive more Azerbaijani gas after the Shah-Deniz field is put into operation.
