Moscow in Wine Talks with Abkhazia, Transdnestria

Russian chief sanitary inspector Genady Onishchenko said his agency is in talks with breakaway Abkhazia and Transdnestria about the possibility of importing wines produced in these regions to Russia, Interfax news agency reported on November 6.

Russia’s consumer protection agency banned imports of Georgian and Moldovan wines in March, citing pesticides found in the wines as the main reason for the ban.

?Talks currently underway with Transdnestria and Abkhazia on possibly accessing their wines on the Russian market are rather hopeful,? Interfax quoted Onishchenko as saying.
