Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a telephone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on October 12, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported on Friday.
The resolution of the UN Security Council on Abkhazia was among the issues discussed. The current UNOMIG mandate expires on October 15.
Georgian Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili said on October 12 that ?tough talks? are underway in the UN over the wording of the resolution, as Russia has been insisting on condemning Georgia?s moves in Kodori Gorge and Tbilisi?s ?inflammatory rhetoric.?
A draft resolution on Abkhazia is expected to be discussed by the Security Council on October 13.
