CEC Approves Composition of Tbilisi City Council

The Central Election Commission (CEC) has approved the final results of local self-governance elections in Tbilisi, as a result of which 34 seats in the capital city council (Sakrebulo) will be occupied by the ruling National Movement party.

Representatives of the opposition Labor party, the Industrialists, and a coalition of Republicans and Conservatives will each occupy one seat in the 37-member Tbilisi Sakrebulo.

The final results of voting are as follows: National Movement ? 66, 53%; election bloc of Republicans and Conservatives ? 12, 04%; Labor Party ? 10, 65%; Industrialists ? 6, 08%. Ex-Foreign Minister Salome Zourabichvili?s Georgia?s Way and the National Ideology Party garnered 2, 77% and 0, 02%, respectively.

The Republican and Conservative coalition, which expected to be given two seats in the Sakrebulo, has already condemned the CEC decision to allocate only one seat to their election bloc. As a result Tina Khidasheli of the Republican Party will not be given a seat in the Sakrebulo.
