NATO Official Visits Georgia

The NATO Secretary General?s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, Robert Simmons, arrived in Georgia on October 10 to hold talks with Georgian leaders.


During the visit Simmons will meet with President Saakashvili, Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli, Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze and other officials.


?The major goal of Mr. Simmons? visit to Georgia is to launch the planning of NATO-Georgia relations in the frames of an Intensified Dialogue. Five top level consultations are planned within a year to assess the implementation of commitments undertaken by Georgia,? Georgian Deputy Defense Minister Mamuka Kudava told reporters on October 10.


Georgia launched the Intensified Dialogue with NATO on September 21.
