PM Orders to Implement Resolution on Peacekeepers

Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli instructed the Georgian Foreign Ministry and the State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues to launch joint activities over implementation of the Parliament?s July 18 resolution.

?Yesterday, the Parliament adopted a resolution on withdrawal of peacekeepers from the conflict zones and accordingly, we should start working over this issue,? Zurab Nogaideli said at the government?s session on July 19.

In the resolution the Parliament instructed the government to launch relevant procedures in order to immediately suspend, as the document reads, ?the so-called peacekeeping operations? in breakaway Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

But President Saakashvili said on July 18, after the Parliament?s voting, that the Georgian government will take final decision about the Russian peacekeepers, after he meets Russian leader Vladimir Putin. The meeting is expected to take place on a sideline of an informal summit of CIS leaders in Moscow this week.
