Georgia Accuses Russia of Plotting ‘Military Intervention’

The Georgian Foreign Ministry condemned the July 14 blast in Tskhinvali which killed to civilians and injured four others, and blamed the Russian and South Ossetian sides for “masterminding provocations of this kind.”

“Their [the Russian and South Ossetian sides] goal is clear: military escalation through provocations with further military intervention under the pretext of protection of Russian citizens,” Merab Antadze, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia, said at a news conference on July 14.

He said that the situation in the South Ossetian conflict zone “is extremely tense.”

“The goal of the hysteric statements, made recently in the Russian media sources that Georgia prepares for military operation, is to justify actions which are planned by Russia and which aim at military intervention,” Antadze added.
