Paper Speculates on Possible Government Restructuring

The Georgian daily Rezonansi reported on June 8 quoting an unnamed high-ranking official that constitutional changes are anticipated which will be aimed at reforming the Interior Ministry, which currently incorporates the security service, and a merger of the Economy and Energy Ministries.


According to the newspaper, Kakha Bendukidze is most likely to become chief of the unified Energy and Economy Ministries. Zurab Nogaideli will retain his position of Prime Minister in the reshuffled cabinet, while Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili will fail keep his position, according to this report.


Various media speculations about possible a cabinet reshuffle have been circulating in recent months, but none of these have proved to be valid so far.
