PM Downplays Proposal on Constitutional Changes

Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli said he does not think that a proposal to give the PM the right to hold a seat in the parliament as well will be discussed by the Parliament.

?This is a personal initiative by MP [Alexandre] Shalamberidze and I do not think that any serious development will follow,? PM Nogaideli said on January 11.

Alexandre Shalamberidze, a parliamentarian from the ruling National Movement party proposed constitutional changes, envisaging the appointment of PM by members of parliament and the PM would also hold the position of parliamentarian. MP Shalamberidze said that this would increase the ?team spirit? of the cabinet, as well as improve interactions between the executive and legislative bodies.
